Virginia Bastable
Virginia Bastable is a mathematics educator and coauthor of But Why Does It Work?: Mathematical Argument in the Elementary Classroom. According to publisher and library records, she has been the Director of the SummerMath for Teachers Program at Mount Holyoke College since 1993 and taught middle school and high school mathematics for more than twenty years.
Bastable is also listed as a coauthor of the Developing Mathematical Ideas professional development curriculum and the second edition of Investigations in Number, Data, and Space. Additional sources identify her as Associate Director of the Mathematics Leadership Programs at Mount Holyoke College and note her long collaboration on work about early algebra and mathematical argument in elementary classrooms.
