Your Gifted Child

An estimated 500,000 potentially gifted children are born each year. Since most schools don't begin to test for giftedness until about the age of eight, it is left to parents to recognize and nurture their children's special talents and abilities in the early critical years. This intelligent, insightful, and useful volume is a complete guide to identifying gifted children and helping them develop to the fullest.

Packed with sound advice drawn from both the latest research and examples from real families, Your Gifted Child covers all the major issues that arise for gifted children and their parents, from birth to age seven. The authors have combined their years of experience studying gifted children, raising their own, and conducting workshops for families. In Your Gifted Child, they share their knowledge on how to recognize the early signs of giftedness, stimulate curiosity and creativity, choose the right books and science projects, foster sound social and moral development, evaluate preschool and primary school programs, develop language skills, and much more.

Encouraging a gifted child is not the same as pumping a "superbaby" full of facts. Rather, it is a way of bringing an extraordinary inborn potential to its full flowering without pressure or intrusiveness. Parents of gifted children and professionals who work with them will find Your Gifted Child the indispensable volume on the subject.
