Margo Gottlieb

Margo Gottlieb, Ph.D., is a co-founder and lead developer of WIDA at the Wisconsin Center for Education Research at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where she has helped design and contribute to multiple editions of WIDA’s English and Spanish language development standards frameworks. Her career spans roles as a bilingual teacher and coordinator, director of assessment and evaluation at the Illinois Resource Center, facilitator, consultant, and mentor across K–20 settings, working with schools, districts, governments, universities, and educational organizations on linguistically and culturally sustainable curriculum, classroom assessment, and language education policy.

An internationally recognized expert in assessment and standards for multilingual learners, Gottlieb has contributed to language proficiency and development standards for entities such as American Samoa, Guam, TESOL, and WIDA, and has designed assessments, curricular frameworks, and instructional assessment systems for language learners in preK–12 settings. She holds a Ph.D. in public policy analysis with a focus on evaluation research and program design, an M.A. in applied linguistics, and a B.A. in Spanish education.
